Growing Us Coach is live on Android and iPhone.
After months of late nights, voice recordings that made us cringe, arguments about button colors, and the surreal experience of being coached by our own AI, Growing Us is now available for couples to try on their phones.
We're terrified. In the best way.
Quick Answer
Growing Us Coach is a mobile couples coach available on Android and iPhone. It is built for the moments between "we're fine" and "we need therapy": when something feels off, when the same fight keeps returning, when you want to start alone, or when you need a gentler way into a hard conversation. The app helps you journal solo, name patterns, start guided conversations, and grow together when your partner is ready.
Key Facts
- Growing Us Coach is available on Android and iPhone (the download page links to your store).
- The core promise is "Journal solo. Grow together." Start privately, then invite your partner when there is something clear enough to share.
- The app helps with common relationship moments: something feels off, the same fight keeps coming back, a hard conversation feels too loaded, or you want to stay close before things get difficult.
- You get 2 free coaching sessions to start.
Why did we build Growing Us Coach?
We did not make this because couples need another screen full of charts.
We built it because most relationship pain does not begin as a dramatic crisis. It begins as a thing you cannot quite name.
The third night in a row where you both scroll in bed.
The chores fight that is not really about chores.
The sentence "I'm fine" doing a heroic amount of lying.
The partner who will not go to therapy, but might answer five honest questions on their phone (we wrote about that one in what to do when your partner won't go to therapy or read the books).
The couple that is genuinely okay and wants to stay that way.
Growing Us exists for that middle.
What moments does Growing Us Coach help with?
How do you decode what's actually wrong?
Sometimes the hardest part is not changing the pattern. It is seeing it clearly enough to stop blaming the wrong thing.
The app starts privately so you can answer honestly. It reflects back what may be showing up and gives language to the thing you have been circling.
How do you have the conversation you keep postponing?
"We need to talk" can make both people brace.
So we built guide cards for the first move. Not a lecture. A doorway. Start with appreciation. Pick the elephant in the room. Let the coach help you stay with the thread.
Can you process this alone without staying alone?
Some people need to think before they can talk. That is not avoidance if it leads back to the relationship.
Solo journaling is for the messy first draft. Couple work is for the cleaner next step. Our guide to solo modes and rehearsing a conversation shows how the two fit together. If writing feels like too much, voice intake lets you talk out loud for a few minutes, and the app turns that into patterns, prompts, and a next step you can actually use.
Try it: before your next hard conversation, take five minutes alone to say out loud what's actually bothering you — to the app or just to yourself. Naming it solo first is what kept us from walking into the room still figuring out what we meant.
How do you keep a good relationship good?
Couples who stay together are not the ones who never struggle. They are the ones who keep turning toward each other while the issues are still small. In the Gottman Institute's six-year study of newlyweds, couples who stayed together turned toward each other's small bids for connection 86% of the time, compared with 33% for couples who later split up.
This is why the app starts with appreciation, habits, and small next steps. Prevention is not less serious than repair. It is repair before the rupture.
What can Growing Us Coach help you do?
Everything in the app is there to help with a simple relationship move:
- Talk it out anytime.
- Turn "we need to talk" into "I hear you."
- Turn patterns into progress.
- Watch your relationship grow.

What have we learned from using Growing Us Coach ourselves?
We've been dogfooding this app for months, and a few things surprised us.
The coach notices things we don't. There was a session where it flagged that one of us asked seven questions and the other answered with one-word replies. We'd had no idea there was that kind of asymmetry. That one insight changed how we approach check-ins.
Solo mode is underrated. We thought couples sessions would be the star. But some of our biggest breakthroughs came from solo sessions — figuring out what we actually felt before trying to explain it to someone else.
Consistency matters more than intensity. A 10-minute weekly check-in does more for us than a 2-hour argument every few months. The Gottman Institute builds its State of the Union meeting on the same weekly rhythm, and we knew this intellectually from the research. Living it is different.
What are we still improving?
This is version one. It works. We use it every week. But there are still pieces we want to make easier and warmer:
- Making the app easier for more couples to start together
- Helping invited partners understand why they were invited
- Making sensitive questions feel safer to answer
- Making payment and extra sessions simpler
- Helping the app grow with you as your relationship changes
We're sharing the process because that's how we started: two people who needed something that didn't exist and decided to make it.
If you try it, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us what works, what doesn't, what you wish it did. You can reach us anytime at growing.us.coach@gmail.com or through the app's support page.
Why did we build it for the Tuesday night, not the crisis?
We didn't build this to disrupt therapy or to prove that AI can replace human connection. We built it because many couples never make it to a therapist's office. In a five-year study of 213 newlywed couples, only 36% sought any kind of outside help. We think that is not because they don't need help, but because the barrier is high: the cost, the scheduling, the stigma.
Growing Us is the thing you try on a Tuesday night. When you're both tired but something feels off. When you want to connect but don't know where to start. When you're not in crisis, you're just... drifting.
That's where we were. That's where the app started. And now it's yours.
